Merida is the first Disney Princess created by Pixar. When Queen Elinor (Thompson), her mother, falls victim to a beastly curse and turns into a bear, Merida must look within herself and find the key to saving the kingdom. Set in the Scottish Highlands, the film tells the story of Princess Merida of DunBroch (Macdonald) who defies an age-old custom, causing chaos in the kingdom by expressing the desire not to be betrothed.
The film stars the voices of Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Kevin McKidd, and Craig Ferguson. The story was written by Chapman, who also wrote the film's screenplay with Andrews, Purcell, and Irene Mecchi.
The film was directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman (in the former's feature directorial debut), co-directed by Steve Purcell, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, with John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, and Pete Docter serving as executive producers. I did like to see the sketches and story art within the story though, it is cool to see “behind the scenes” of Brave.Brave is a 2012 American computer-animated fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. This app doesn’t read the story aloud, so it would be for a child that can read, which my son cannot. My son didn’t like this app as much as the Brave Storybook Deluxe. This app also offers extras on how to draw characters like Merida, Elinor, Mor’du, and the Triplets. There are two reading modes: panel by panel and autoplay. There are little gold pots within the pages that when you click on them a slideshow pops up that includes sketches and concept art of the main characters from Pixar artists.
